HIGH SUMMER TREATS: THE AUGUST DIARIES

The new season hints at major wardrobe recycling opportunities - best thing is, you can start now.

The Seventies frenzy has been creeping into our wardrobes this warm season but the autumn/winter designer and high street collections will convince anyone that the Seventies are back with a much louder bang. If you, like me, are something of a vintage collector, have family archive hand-me-downs from previous decades, or simply hate to throw anything away, chances are you will find special treasures in the closet to wear in the days to come. Or, alternatively, you can go and add fresh vintage style items to it. I will share my tips on that soon, but first, let's see how to do end-of-summer dressing knowing what's to come.

The rain is dealt with in the usual way, Hunter wellies or pumps, either with cute striped shorts or with a Mother of Pearl pig tee and a proper little swing mac. Errands I still prefer to run in dark Gap boyfriend or real straight jeans, no particular change there.

What did change is, sensing a soft breeze of the new season, I started to use half-forgotten dresses and tunics that felt right just now. Note the muted chevron stripe halterneck tunic from the Nineties - you don't get more Seventies than that. Next was glamming up an easy piece like the safari shirt dress with gold detail sandals, a vintage scarf and a smart bag. A retro trim tee and lace-up espadrilles is perfect casual dressing, both now and then. Finally I dipped my toe in a bit of boho wearing a long sleeved tunic dress, knee-high lace-up sandals and a cute cat bag, and also in a Greek style Kate Moss dress with a suede jacket thrown over it. The rest shows how to create the modern or mixed versions of the same idea - the khaki jacket plus tunic or the palm print shirt dress look.

Stay safe out there and find my live feeds on Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, and selected looks on Lookbook.
